Los Angeles - News Corp.'s Fox Sports Net has sued Douglas County-based EchoStar Communications Corp., saying the satellite TV giant owes at least $25 million in subscription fees for carrying Fox's 12 regional channels.
The lawsuit, filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, centers on a $10.3 million payment Fox said it received from EchoStar in March 2003. Cable and satellite distributors such as EchoStar pay programmers monthly fees based on the number of subscribers that receive their channels.
News Corp. owns EchoStar's biggest rival, DirecTV.
The $10.3 million payment could be the result of a miscalculation by EchoStar of its 2002 subscriber base, and the company would owe an additional $25 million if it made the same error in 2000 and 2001, Fox said in the lawsuit.
